Abstract

Glossary of Hobson Jobson was written by Sir Henry Yule and Arthur Coke Burnell and first published from London in 1886.Glossary has almost 2456 entries of Anglo-Indian words and phrases. Almost all of its entries have etymological notes. Etymology is the study of the origin of words and the way in which their   meanings have changed throughout history. Philology is one of the etymological ways used in this glossary. Philology is the study of language in oral and written historical sources. There is no such book in Urdu which presents many texts as this glossary quotes different text with order. Authors pay great attention to the research and collected enough examples to support the use of word in specific time. His evidences helps reader to understand the reasons of continuous changes occurred in words and their meanings. Glossary research methodology is also appreciate able as authors make sure to write complete reference of every quotation.
