Poetic Biography Writers of the Prophet in Pakistan: A Brief Introduction
Abstract
Urdu poetic Seerah writing has a rich history, paralleling the more widely recognized prose biographies of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). One of the earliest known poetic Seerah works, Hasht Bihisht by Mullah Baqar Agha, highlights this tradition's deep roots. Over time, several Urdu poets, including Abrar Kartpuri, Hafeez Jalandhari, Ejaz Rahmani, and Anjum Niazi, have significantly contributed to this genre, blending literary excellence with spiritual devotion. Their poetry not only serves as a tribute to the Prophet (PBUH) but also preserves historical and religious narratives in an aesthetically profound manner. This study presents a concise introduction to these poets and their works, emphasizing their thematic depth and artistic contributions. By shedding light on this important yet often overlooked literary form, the research aims to encourage further exploration of poetic Seerah writing and its enduring impact on Urdu literature۔
