Evolution of Imagery in Urdu Poetry: From Beginning to Contemporary age
Abstract
This research paper explores the evolution of imagery in Urdu poetry, tracing its development from the classical era to the contemporary landscape. It examines how Urdu poets, from Mir Taqi Mir and Mirza Ghalib in the classical period to Allama Iqbal, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, and contemporary poets like Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi, Ahmed Faraz, have employed imagery to convey emotions, cultural nuances, and societal critiques. The paper highlights the transformation of imagery techniques, from traditional metaphors to innovative symbolism and surrealism, as well as the influence of cultural and social factors on its evolution. By studying the changing themes and contexts, this research sheds light on Urdu poetry's ability to adapt and remain a potent reflection of its times.
